January 2017 Incendian of the Month – Dani Suiter

We are super excited to bring back the “Incendian of the Month” Series. It’s always so fun to get to know the personality behind each athlete. It has been a couple of years since we’ve selected an Incendian of the Month so it was incredibly difficult to choose just one person to showcase, but we’ve found a good one!

Meet Dani Suiter. Dani became an Incendian about a year and half ago and she has taken this place by storm! You’ll find her in CrossFit, Yoga, Strongman and pretty much every other class we offer. You’ll see her at Incendia Social Functions and she is a big part of YTBN. She tries everything and isn’t afraid of something new. This is one of our favorite qualities in Dani. Additionally, her easygoing, helpful attitude make her a unanimous Incendian Coach favorite and an awesome asset to the #IncendiaFAM. We are so lucky she landed here.

In 2016, she was not only the attendance leader (with 254 classes attended), but she was also the PR leader (with 50 PRs logged). Considering that Dani is in grad school and is a busy student, this accomplishment is super impressive all by itself. But, that isn’t enough for Dani.  In January, she did a CrossFit Competition outside of the gym AND she ran a half-marathon. This girl is unstoppable!

Congratulations Dani! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!

When did you start CrossFit:

October 2015

Why did you start CrossFit:

I was getting bored with my workout routine, which consisted of spending 1-2 hours a day in a “Globogym.” Sure, I was getting strong, but those gyms definitely get boring and repetitive over time. I was looking for something different, and something to keep me motivated during the workout.

What kept you coming back and what keeps you motivated:

After that first class, I couldn’t believe how tired I was! I dropped in on a free 9am Saturday class with a friend, and we were both so exhausted after our very first CrossFit WOD. Looking back on it, I think it was actually one of the “easier” ones. LOL. The thing that made me want to come for a second time was the positive atmosphere and energy of everyone inside of the gym. I’ve never been around a more energetic and inviting group of people. Even though it was my very first day, there were so many people at the gym that were willing to talk to my friend and I and answer all of our questions that we had about CrossFit.

What is the best thing you have gotten out of doing CrossFit?

Wow. The best thing? I can name probably 100 things, but I would have to say that the best thing that I have gotten out of CrossFit is finding a fantastic group of people to call my second family. There are so many wonderful people at Incendia that are motivated, encouraging, strong, intelligent, fun, dedicated, and just all around great people! I’ve made some fantastic life-long friends here, that I would have never met if it weren’t for CrossFit. This place really has become my second home. Just check my attendance record for 2016 😉

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do?

Well, I recently ran my first half marathon. If you would have told me 2 years ago that I would be running a half, I would have told you that you were crazy.

What is one goal you have reached? And, one goal you still hope to reach?

The goal that I have reached is just being a happy and healthy person! I used to struggle with health issues left and right, but ever since I found CrossFit, I feel the best that I have ever felt. Physically and mentally!

How has your diet changed since starting CrossFit?

Well I certainly don’t treat my body like a trash can anymore! I used to absolutely live for sweets and all that sugar-filled junk food. Now it has gotten to the point where I don’t even crave half of that stuff anymore. I have learned to eat more mindfully, which really means that when I eat, it is for a purpose. I like that I am now choosing to eat good and healthy foods because I know that they do great things for my body, and fuel me for my next workout.

What is your favorite…..

CrossFit Movement or Lift? – deadlifts, obviously.

Cheat Meal? – Pizza

WOD Music? – There’s just something about the 80s hair metal that coach Don likes to play for us during Strongman.

Thing to Do on Rest Day? – ROMWOD J

WOD Attire? – My Nanos, I basically live in them.

Workout? – DT
