Check Out Our Snatch: Incendia Barbell

By Lisa

If you’ve spent some time with Coach BV, you know he has a lot of love for Olympic Lifting. He likes CrossFit, but he loves lifting. He dabbled with some local weightlifting clinics dating back to 2009 (they were pretty hard to find back in the day) and continued to hone his technique whenever and wherever he could. Over the years, he made several trips to the East Valley to train with the best in the sport and worked very hard to become the lifter that he is today.

As Olympic Lifting became more mainstream, he knew he wanted to coach others and attended the CrossFit Weightlifting Trainer Course and the USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach Course in 2013. In early 2014, he made our club official and Incendia Barbell first officially hit the schedule October 1, 2014. Last weekend, BV trained with Chad Vaughn in the CrossFit Advanced Weightlifting Trainer Course and he’s headed to the Power Monkey Camp in October. If you’ve had Coach BV for a Barbell Class, you know he knows his stuff and it’s pretty cool to see how humble he is about it. I’m going to toot his horn for a second because I’m so proud of him! 🙂

Side note: I can vividly remember when he was trying to figure out what a “push jerk” was while searching for the movement on our laptop from our kitchen circa early-2008. Back then, he had to teach himself lifts from the internet before he was able to find a coach. CrossFit gyms and weightlifting “experts” weren’t on every corner a few years ago and he had to wait for a gym to open near us to get some real coaching. He found a great coach and it was life-changing for him.

As we worked to integrate the Incendia Barbell programming with our six-day per week CrossFit Programming, Incendia Barbell began as a one-platform class with three times per week programming. It was small, classes were intimate and one-on-one instruction was the norm. As Olympic Lifting has gained popularity inside and outside of Incendia, we have been brainstorming ways to expand and grow the program, with limited space and an already-full class schedule (130 classes per week and growing!). Upon attending the Box to Business Seminar in early June and brainstorming with some of the brightest minds in the business (Khalipa and JP), we think we’ve figured it out and we are excited to announce that Incendia Barbell is expanding!

We are currently transforming the north end of the CrossFit side into our Incendia Barbell HQ. As I type this, BV is building a second platform that will be ready for tonight’s Barbell Class (he’s pretty and handy!). We would like to put multiple platforms in that space, but we’ll have to see how each one fits as they are installed. We are purchasing more equipment and, as always, it will be the best of the best. But seriously, the equipment is secondary to the coaching. Incendians have access to some amazing, well-qualified lifting coaches. Three of us are USA Weightlifting Coaches, six of us are CrossFit Weightlifting Trainers and one of us is a CrossFit Advanced Weightlifting Trainer. Two more of us will be attending USA Weightlifting Courses in the very near future. We are committed to providing you the best coaching in the Northwest Valley, whether it is for Weightlifting or CrossFit or Strongman or CrossFit Teens of CrossFit Kids or CrossFit 101 or Yoga or Endurance or Mobility or Gymnastics.

So, how is this expanded Barbell Program going to work? Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 4pm to 7pm and Saturdays from 11am to 12:00pm. You can use the platforms anytime you’d like during those timeframes. A coach will be on duty the entire time and lifts will be programmed on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. You can do the programmed lifts or your own lifts – it’s totally up to YOU. Tuesdays and Saturdays will open to make up any lifts you may have missed or to work on technique. It’s a free-flow, but expertly coached, environment. Best of all, Incendia Barbell is included in ALL monthly memberships from CrossFit 101 to CrossFit. Whether you are brand new or preparing for a competition, this class is for you.

This is Coach BV’s baby. Please feel free to ask him any questions or pick his brain. He can be reached at 623-249-4416 or
